"Everything was packed. Clothes, camping gear, books, and…Memories. A faded photograph from her first birthday, when she smashed the birthday cake all over her face while her mum tried desperately to clean her up. The picture her parents took of her at King’s Cross Station almost six years ago. A small album of their most recent vacations – camping in the Forest of Dean and vacationing in Nice and Lyon – with her tiny, neat writing on the backs of each photo explaining what they were doing. She’d spent weeks preparing, making sure every single detail was squared away. And now…The last detail of all. Hermione heard her mother call her for afternoon tea – 4:00 PM on the dot as usual, and she could feel her eyes brimming with tears already. Her bag in one hand and wand in the other, she crept downstairs. She stopped just outside the study and watched them, burning this last memory into her brain. Truthfully, she never even liked tea time that much. But now…There was nothing she wouldn’t give for one last pot with them. She raised her wand, tears streaming down her face, trying desperately to keep her focus. Even a split second of hesitation could lead to disastrous consequences. Now that the moment had arrived, she didn’t know if she had the heart to cast it. How could she destroy 17 years of joy and unconditional love? How could she rip her entire existence out of the hearts and minds of the two people most dedicated to her? But...She had to. For the greater good. “Obliviate.” She kissed them both on the forehead as they sat motionless on the couch, brains still addled from the force of her spellcasting. “I’ll be back someday. I promise.”" ----- "Obliviate" by The Pandaman
